Week 1: September 11 - September 14

Please bring your CSA bag back each week! We re-use them throughout the season.
Welcome to the Fall CSA at 10th Street Farm! We’re so excited to share the upcoming season with you, eating delicious local veggies as we transition from the freshness of summer to the coziness of autumn.
Fall is a season of transformation and balance on the farm - we keep one eye fixed on the future while managing and savoring the present. This year’s wonky weather has contributed to the in-betweenness of September even more than usual, with nights in the low-40s last week and days in the mid-80s this weekend. We’re harvesting fall potatoes, beets, delicata and acorn squash, while we enjoy a few more weeks of summer staples like tomatoes, cucumbers, and green beans.
We hope this blending of seasons makes for a varied and delicious CSA share each week. In our eyes, each CSA is a reflection of the season, and the vegetables in your bag change regularly to reflect what’s tasting best on the farm. Getting a weekly share is like subscribing to the rhythm of the farm. We hope you enjoy picking up your bag each week and seeing how the seasons change over the course of two and a half months.
The fall crops are looking good, with long-season crops like sweet potatoes, winter squash, and Brussels sprouts growing happily in the front field. As frost inevitably approaches, we’ll work to bring those crops in and share them with you. We’re also beginning to ramp up our greens production in our tunnels and greenhouses, so we’ll hopefully have plenty of leafy greens to share even after the weather turns cold. In this newsletter each week, we’ll share an update about what’s happening on the farm, as well as a rundown of what’s in your bag and some inspiration for what you could try in the kitchen.
Thanks so much for your support of 10th Street Farm and enjoy the upcoming season!
Have a transformational week,
Chris, Ashley, Hallie, and the 10th Street Farm Crew
In Your Bag This Week
Head Lettuce: Beautiful crisp romaine heads. Great for everything from lettuce wraps to salads and sandwiches. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Onion: Onions are here! A flavorful start for soups, sautees, or a sheet pan of roasted veggies. Store on your countertop or in a cool, dark, dry place.
Garlic: The best cooking advice we ever received? When a recipe calls for a clove of garlic, use two or three! Store on your counter.
Cucumbers: Crunchy and refreshing, chop up for a salad, add to sandwiches or just eat raw! Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Flavor Mix microgreens: Mild and tasty, these make an easy salad on their own or can add some color to any other salad. Try them on eggs or sandwiches – or anything, really! Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Sweet Pepper: These are amazing raw, with dips, or added to a skillet or grill. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Cherry Tomatoes: A rainbow of flavor, packed in a pint. Store on the counter - never in the fridge!
Cabbage (half shares): A staple across cultures, cabbage is equally tasty in a fresh cole slaw and roasted in the oven. Versatile, storable, and beautiful. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Cauliflower (full shares): This versatile veggie is tender and delicious - we love it in curries and stews, roasted, or fried up as a wing substitute! Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Salad Turnips (full shares): Also called Hakurei Turnips, these fresh-eating turnips are tasty and versatile. Slice them up with hummus, sauté them, roast them in the oven, or even try them on the grill. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Arugula (full shares): Peppery greens that add zip to a salad. We love arugula dressed simply with oil and salt. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.
Slicer Tomato (full shares): The taste of summertime! Store on the counter - never in the fridge!

What should I make with what’s in the bag?
We’ve been loving the sweet pepper & tomato combination in recent weeks - their sweetness and acidity makes for complex flavors with just a few ingredients. This roasted red pepper, cherry tomato and corn pasta sounds tasty if you can get your hands on the last of some good local sweet corn. Or try this charred cherry tomato and red pepper salad. We’ve also been loving cucumber salads lately - the ginger in this cucumber salad with soy, ginger, and garlic is a bit unexpected but somehow it works!
Speaking of unexpected, here’s a wildcard recipe we just stumbled upon: creamy lettuce soup. Let us know how it is if you’re bold (or desperate?) enough to try it out!
There’s a bit of diversion between full and half shares this week. As always, we’ll do everything we can to make sure each share gets every vegetable, so if you don’t have a favorite this week, it’s headed your way in the future. Splitting the shares just helps us balance our harvest from week to week. For half shares, we’re thrilled with the HUGE green cabbages we just harvested from the front field - they’d be great in a slaw, or kraut, but would also be perfect for these pork-stuff cabbage rolls on a cherry tomato and garlic sauce. And full shares have some beautiful cauliflower. This parmesan-roasted cauliflower recipe definitely has our mouth watering.
If you've found a recipe you're loving, please send it our way. We're always looking for new things to cook and share with other members!
We wash everything in your bag but we wash them in bulk so some things may need an extra rinse at home. Thanks!
