Week 1: April 9th - 12th

Welcome to the 10th Street Farm & Market 2026 Spring CSA! It has been a wonky weather spring but it seems like we’re finally leaving the freezing nights behind us soon and we’ll be able to get out into the fields at full speed! We are so excited to have you with us as we enter the warmer months and watch the farm fields spring back to life.

We’re busy gearing up for the farm’s 16th year! In the greenhouses we’re in the thick of seeding and up-potting, with summer staples like tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers taking up an increasing amount of space on our growing tables. In the high tunnels, the winter spinach is still going strong and tasting great, joined by spring plantings of other cold-hardy greens. And as of yesterday we’ve fully planted our tunnels in spring crops like radishes, salad turnips, arugula, sugar snap peas, and our first successions of carrots. Next we’ll venture out into the open fields, pushing this Minnesota spring to grow as many tasty veggies as possible!

Whether it’s your first CSA share or your fifteenth, this time of year always feels fresh and full of growth. We have a stellar mix of new and returning farmers working on the farm this year, and we’re excited to grow some great vegetables for you over the next 10 weeks!

A slight format change

As we mentioned in our email last week, we are trialing a small change to the way we do CSA pickup this season, which will hopefully make your CSA bag even better! Rather than packing a predetermined bag for you, we’ll be laying out vegetables in our walk-in cooler for you to fill your own bag, with a couple of items for you to choose between. For example, some weeks you might have a choice of arugula microgreens or micro cilantro, or the option to select a bunch of radishes or turnips according to your preferences.

A “behind the scenes” caveat: we’re planning to stock these choice bins based on the proportions of what sells in market (e.g. if we sell twice as much micro cilantro as micro arugula in the market, a cilantro/arugula choice bin will have ⅔ cilantro and ⅓ arugula). Since this is a new system and we’re still figuring out exactly what people will choose, there may be times where a “choice” bin only contains one item for people picking up their share later in the weekend. Our hope is that this new system will result in bags that are more tailored to your tastes than a completely pre-packed share, but please be patient as we fine-tune the process! If you were with us in the winter CSA you already got to try out this system, and the feedback was universally positive. Please share any questions and suggestions, and let us know how you like it!

We hope you’re as excited for the spring as we are, and thanks again for supporting 10th Street Farm!

Have a warming up week,

Chris, Ashley, and the 10th Street Farmers

In Your Bag This Week

Flavor Mix microgreens: Mild and tasty, these make an easy salad on their own or can add some color to any other salad. Try them on eggs or sandwiches – or anything, really! Store in a bag in your fridge.

Persephone Mix salad greens: Our fresh-cut blend of lettuce and cold-hardy greens. Store in a bag in your fridge.

Spinach: Spinach gets sweeter the more it freezes and thaws as the plant produces sugars to use as an anti-freeze to keep the plant alive. That means the best spinach you can eat is grown in a cold place! Use as a salad base, sautéed as a side dish or bake into a casserole. Store in a bag in your fridge.

Choice:

  • Pea Shoots: Sweet and crisp, these make a great addition to sandwiches, wraps, salads or can be lightly sautéed as a side dish. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.

  • Radish Shoots: These beautiful purple and green shoots have a spicy taste and add a pop of color. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.

Choice:

  • Arugula microgreens: Peppery micros add a little punch to pizza, salads, pestos, sandwiches, eggs, and more. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.

  • Power Greens Micro Mix: Our newest micro mix! A nutrient-dense blend of broccoli, kale, daikon, and bekana sure to power up any dish!

Full share choice:

  • Kale: Hearty yet still tender, kale is packed full of flavor and nutrients. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.

  • Rainbow Chard: Stunning Swiss chard offers a pop of color with an earthy, spinach-like flavor. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.

Full share choice:

  • Petite Choi: Miniature pac choi is the perfect addition to stir fry, ramen, or fresh salads. Lightly sauté, steam, or just eat raw. Store in an airtight bag or container in your fridge.

  • Extra spinach

What should I make with what’s in the bag?

As always, our early spring bags are heavy on greens - that’s just what grows in this climate at this point in the season! But it’s the perfect time of the year for sweet spinach salads or hearty winter greens grain bowls

If you’re new to our microgreens, think of them like a versatile seasoning - a sprinkle on top makes almost every dish better! We love our micro arugula on pizza with a little oil and salt, or micro cilantro on tacos or nachos. But it’s also super easy to just toss them (or flavor mix or radish shoots or power greens) into a salad or onto a sandwich for a little more flavor and texture.

If you've found a recipe you're loving, please send it our way. We're always looking for new things to cook and share with other members!

We wash everything in your bag but we wash them in bulk so some things may need an extra rinse at home. Thanks!
