Spring update from the farm

Well, the snow is melting and it’s starting to feel like Spring, so we figured it would be a good time to share an update on the farm as we enter our 13th season. We have some exciting news this year!

As you know, we are always looking for ways to make the farm as balanced as possible - offering a wide variety of produce and kitchen goods, extending our season, and exploring new markets. This year, we’re taking a big step forward and officially welcoming two new farmers to the 10th Street Farm & Market business. After a successful year farming here in Afton, Ashley and Chris are joining me as partners in the farm business! We’re excited to collaborate in the coming months to make this farm the most amazing place possible.

As many of you know, Ashley and Chris have been living on the farm with their two little kids since last May. This year, they’ll be taking over management of the vegetable side of things - running the CSA, farm stand, and wholesale veggie accounts with my support. Prior to moving to 10th Street, Ashley and Chris spent three years running California Street Farm, a small urban vegetable farm in Northeast Minneapolis, and they farmed for two seasons at Prairie Drifter Farm, a larger organic CSA farm in Litchfield, MN. Needless to say they bring lots of relevant skills and experience to our farm.

I will remain active on the farm, leading the commercial kitchen & bakery, while continuing to contribute to the vegetable growing operation. Be on the lookout for tasty new treats continuing to come out of the kitchen!

We’re really excited for this next chapter of 10th Street Farm. Three heads are better than one, and collaborating on the farm will give us the ability to explore new offerings, produce more vegetables at our high quality standards, and even (gasp) take a day off here and there.

Thanks, as always, for your support of 10th Street Farm & Market. We love providing local food for local people! Also, remember to sign up for your Spring CSA share if you haven’t yet - the first pickup is less than two weeks away and we only have a few shares left!

Your farmers, current and future,

Hallie, Ashley, and Chris
